The UK Government has launched its public consultation with a view of simplifying streamlining current overlapping energy efficiency policy schemes.
Key considerations are to
Scrap the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) – to be replaced with a Climate Change Levy (CCL) alternative
Change Climate Change Agreements (CCAs) – there is appreciation of the loss of competitiveness that large users would face, though hints that the CCA categories may be limited
Develop a single reporting scheme – a mixture of ESOS & Mandatory Green House Gas (GHG) reporting. This scheme would potentially be rolled out to all ESOS qualifying companies ( i.e. UK large entities).
Incentivise energy reduction measures – this might take the form of grants/loans/other financial incentives for implementing (e.g. ESOS) audit findings
